"Final Laps"
Jeremy Croiset looks to the future It was time for Leighton and Kelly to head off to the airport, but I had 2 more sessions remaining. Kelly had done a baseline set of laps earlier in the day where he lapped and produced a lap time that I could be measured against. Each session, I was getting closer and closer to that time and getting more and more comfortable with the car. 3rd session came, and I again went out with the attitude of not breaking any times or records, but just trying to go a little quicker and get a little more comfortable with this amazing machine. Went well, and I again came in and gave the race engineers my thoughts on what the car was doing and where I thought it could go faster. Before I knew it, it was time for the last session of the day. It was obviously the best one of the day with the fastest times, but because the car had been suffering from a understeer issue during the day, I think I had run the front tires off the car and was not able to get as close to Kelly’s time as I would have liked. I felt really good in the car, comfortable with how it drove and the speed I could carry into and through the corners. It was the best I had felt in the car all day and I think with a new set of tires, I could have gotten the times down a little bit more. 150mph down the back straight and braking extremely late is something that takes a bit of time to get used to! The car brakes, turns, and accelerates like nothing I’ve had the chance to drive. The best word to describe it is “amazing”. The downforce the car produces at speed allows you to brake with astounding force! It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. I was one of only a few people in the world that had driven this professionally prepared world class race car!
I’m not sure where it goes from here as I have not heard anything as of yet, but rest assured that when and if I do and I’m allowed to tell, I report it here!
